Kenya: Babygirl born aboard KQ plane

July 26th, 2010

Have you ever heard of a miracle where a plane lands with an extra passenger, to the jubilation of both crew and passengers?

Well it has happened.

Maybe she will be a pilot when she grows up or for how else can you explain that she was born in a plane?

It rarely happens. Mother goes into labour pains while on air and fifteen minutes after the plane touches down, she gives birth to a bouncing baby girl. Amazing.

A Kenya Airways in-flight crew delivered a baby girl on board a flight that had just landed from Muscat, Oman in Nairobi on Thursday last week. » Read more: Kenya: Babygirl born aboard KQ plane

German journalists arrested in Copenhagen

December 16th, 2009

Massive attack on the freedom of press
The German Association of Free Radio demand the immediate release of young journalists

During a demonstration at the harbour area of Copenhagen on Sunday, 13th of December the Danish police arrested two German reporters from Rostock as they were working. The young women, both 23 years old, were reporting for the German Association of Free Radio (BFR). The association strongly condemns the massive restrictions on the freedom of press and demands the immediate release of the two colleagues.

The arrest took place on the fringes of a demonstration as the Danish police tried to dissolve it. In this situation the police tried to prevent a large number of journalists from reporting by shoving them. One of the arrested was also hit in her face whilst filming. Her footage was passed to a colleague shortly before the arrest. In the meantime the videoclip can be watched on the internet.

The police accuse the young journalists of an assault against an officer by one person and an escape attempt by the other. “With their accusations Danish authorities give a false color against my colleagues. Both accusations are not true“ said Mr. Falk Schlegel for the BFR who was present at the time. On Monday morning a review resulted in the remand of both in custody until the 23rd of December at the latest. The judge adjudicated that the cases were not grave enough to justify a longer than 30 day sentence which was demanded by the State Attorney. The main reason for keeping them under arrest was to make sure that the authorities are able to deport the young journalists.

Two Kenyan men on Saturday became the first gay couple to wed in London. Charles Ngengi, 40 and his bride, Daniel Chege Gichia, 39, became civil partners under the controversial Civil Partnership Act which came into effect in the UK in 2005 allowing couples of the same sex to have legal recognition of their relationship.

The couple tied the knot at a civil partnership ceremony at Islington Town Hall in North London at 11.30 a.m. UK time. According to the Act, a civil partnership is defined as a legal marriage between gay and lesbian couples, and any couples who enter into a civil partnership obtain the new legal status of civil partners, instead of the traditional husband and wife status. » Read more: Two Kenyan men wed in London
